A banner has about three seconds to earn a glance from someone driving or walking past. Here's what makes those three seconds count.
Lead with one message, not five — a banner trying to say everything says nothing. Use high-contrast colour pairings so text reads instantly from a distance, and keep the font size large enough to read from at least 10 metres away.
Put the most important word first, not last — most people never finish reading a banner. Leave generous white space rather than filling every corner, and make sure your logo is present but not competing with the headline for attention.
Finally, proof it outdoors if you can — colours and contrast behave differently in daylight than on a monitor.
